About
The Commissioner of the Revenue is state constitutional officer as set forth in the Constitution of Virginia and is the chief tax assessing officer of the local government. It is an elected position with a four year term and serves the citizens as well as the County.
Responsibilities
The office maintains the online real estate assessment information which interfaces the GIS (Geographic Information Systems).
The Commissioner of the Revenue is responsible for assessing tangible personal property tax, machinery and tools tax, common carrier tax, bank franchise tax, real estate tax and public service tax. The office provides assistance with income forms and electronic filing of federal and state tax income returns.
The office administers and the Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly and / or Disabled and the Disabled Veterans Real Estate Tax Relief programs. The office is also issues the new Business Permit which began in January 2015.
